In 1587, a small English colony was established on an island off of North America’s east coast.  It was meant to be the first permanent English settlement, but the colonists mysteriously disappeared.  Known as the lost colony of Roanoke, it remains one of America’s greatest historical mysteries, with only vague clues, and  no definitive evidence, fueling ongoing speculation and theories.
