The blue whales are the largest animals to have ever lived on Earth.  They are larger than any dinosaur, with hearts the size of small cars and voices so powerful they can travel across entire ocean basins.  Despite this, blue whales remain surprisingly mysterious.
This week we’re diving into the hidden world of these ocean giants.  How can an animal that grows longer than a basketball court is wide still manage to disappear into the vastness of the ocean?  How did they evolve to a point that nearly violates the laws of physic?  Why do some of their calls remain unexplained?  Could strange underwater sounds, including one of the most famous noises ever recorded in the deep sea, have been connected to these massive creatures?  From their incredible migrations and secret feeding grounds to the unanswered questions scientists are still trying to solve, we’re exploring the mysteries that surround the blue whale.
